FAQ
Frequently asked questions
All questions and answers about vignettes, stickers and low-emission zones in one place.
Swiss e-vignette
›Is the e-vignette valid immediately?
Yes. After purchase the e-vignette is active on your registration plate straight away. There is nothing to stick on or print out.
›What if I drive a hire car or a different registration plate?
The e-vignette is tied to the registration plate. If you switch cars, the other plate needs its own vignette.
›Is there anything shorter than an annual vignette?
No. Switzerland only offers the CHF 40 annual vignette, even for a single day on the motorway.
›What exactly do you do for the service fee?
We carry out the purchase for you in the official shop, check your registration plate beforehand, store the proof of validity in your order file and remind you before it expires. You can always do it yourself — the link is above.
German Umweltplakette
›My car is electric — do I still need the sticker?
Yes. EVs and hybrids must also display the (green) sticker; the fine is for the missing sticker, not for the emissions.
›How long does delivery take?
Allow 5–10 working days. Leaving sooner? Order today — or pick one up en route at a TÜV station.
›Can the sticker be transferred to another car?
No, it is tied to the registration plate printed on it.
LEZ registration Antwerp
›My car easily meets the standards — why do I need to register?
Belgium cannot automatically retrieve foreign vehicle data. Without registration the camera only sees an unknown plate and a €150 fine follows — no matter how clean your car is.
›Does my Antwerp registration also cover Ghent and Brussels?
No, each zone has its own registration. The checker shows you at a glance which ones you need.
LEZ registration Ghent
›I’m parking outside the R40 — do I still need to register?
Only if you actually drive into the zone inside the ring road. If you stay at a P+R outside the ring, no registration is needed.
LEZ registration Brussels
›I only drive through Brussels on my way to France — does the LEZ still apply?
The motorway ring (R0) largely falls outside the zone, but any exit into the region is covered. If you stay on the ring, you don’t need to register; if in doubt, register anyway — it’s free.
Austrian digital vignette
›Why the 18-day waiting period?
Austrian consumer law grants an 18-day right of withdrawal on online purchases; ASFINAG therefore only activates the vignette after that period. This doesn’t apply at points of sale near the border.
›Why can’t I order this vignette from you (yet)?
We’ll only sell the Austrian vignette once we are an official ASFINAG partner, so your vignette is arranged instantly and with full legal validity. Until then we honestly point you to the official route.
Slovenian e-vignette (e-vinjeta)
›My outward and return journeys are 2 weeks apart — which vignette?
Two weekly vignettes (2 × €16) only beat a monthly vignette (€32) if you plan precisely; if in doubt, choose the monthly version and drive worry-free.
Hungarian e-vignette (e-matrica)
›What if I mistype one letter of my registration plate?
Then the vignette is invalid and a surcharge follows. Within 60 days you can have it corrected for a fee; prevention is better — check the plate before paying.
Crit’Air sticker (France)
›What does the Crit’Air sticker cost with you?
The official price is €3.81; our service fee is shown separately on the product page and in your basket. You pay for the convenience: we fill in the French application flawlessly and have the sticker posted to you.
›Which Crit’Air class will my car get?
It follows automatically from the fuel type and the Euro standard on your registration certificate: EVs get class 0 (green), modern petrol class 1, modern diesel class 2 or higher.
›Is the sticker required on the motorway or at the campsite?
No, only inside ZFE zones and on designated routes during smog alerts. But without the sticker you also can’t use the through routes around major cities during a smog alert — for €3.81, that’s not a risk worth taking.
GO-Box: distance-based tolling in Austria above 3.5 t
›My motorhome weighs exactly 3,500 kg — vignette or GO-Box?
Up to and including 3,500 kg maximum permitted weight the vignette applies; the GO-Box starts above that. Look at field F.1/F.2 on your registration certificate, not the actual weight.
DarsGo: distance-based tolling in Slovenia above 3.5 t
›Can I also sort the unit right at the border?
Yes, the service points at the major border crossings have generous opening hours. Registering online in advance saves queuing time in high season.
HU-GO: distance-based tolling in Hungary above 3.5 t
›Is a route ticket enough for a holiday?
For a single transit, yes: you buy the ticket for your exact route. If you deviate along the way, buy a new ticket first — it cannot be corrected afterwards.
PSVA: flat-rate charge in Switzerland above 3.5 t
›Does the PSVA also apply off the motorway?
Yes — unlike the vignette, the PSVA applies to the entire Swiss road network, including mountain passes and minor roads.
Driving to Croatia
›Do I need a vignette in Croatia itself?
No. Croatia has no vignette; you pay tolls per journey at the toll gates or via ENC. The vignettes you need are for the transit countries: Austria and Slovenia.
›What if I only pass through Austria without stopping?
The vignette is still mandatory the moment you use an Austrian motorway. Enforcement is digital, based on your registration plate; the replacement toll if you don’t have one is €120 or more.
›Does the Slovenian vignette also cover the Karawanks Tunnel?
The Karawanks Tunnel has a separate toll that you pay at the tunnel; the e-vinjeta covers the rest of the Slovenian motorway network.
Driving to Switzerland
›Is the Swiss vignette valid immediately?
Yes. The e-vignette is linked to your registration plate and is valid straight after purchase — no sticker to apply, no delivery time.
›Do I need the annual vignette even for a single day in Switzerland?
Yes, Switzerland only offers an annual vignette (CHF 40). There is no day or week version.
Driving to Italy
›Can I also drive via Austria (Brenner)?
Yes. In that case you swap the Swiss vignette for the Austrian vignette plus the Brenner toll. Check both routes in the checker and compare.
›How do tolls work in Italy?
Per stretch at toll gates (cash, card or Telepass). No vignette needed; low-emission zones (ZTL) in cities are something to watch out for, though.
Driving to Austria
›When does a vignette bought online become valid?
If you buy from ASFINAG as a consumer, a statutory 18-day period applies before the vignette takes effect — so plan your purchase well in advance.
Driving to France
›Is the Crit’Air sticker required on the motorway?
No, only inside the ZFE zones of cities like Paris, Lyon and Grenoble — and on designated routes during smog alerts. Tolls are paid per stretch at the péage.
›Why don’t you sell the Crit’Air sticker?
Because you can buy it directly from the French government for €3.81 + postage, while intermediaries charge far more than they should. We explain exactly how to do it yourself in 5 minutes.
Driving to Spain
›What do I need in Spain?
Spanish cities (including Madrid and Barcelona) have ZBE low-emission zones. Registration requirements for foreign vehicles vary per city; our checker and guides keep track of the current rules.
Driving to Hungary
›How strict is enforcement in Hungary?
Fully digital, based on your registration plate, including at the border. A missing e-matrica results in a surcharge within a few weeks that can run up to ten times the vignette price.
Driving to Belgium
›My car is new enough — do I still need to register?
Yes. The registration requirement for foreign plates is separate from the admission criteria. Without registration you risk a €150 fine (€350 in Brussels), even with a clean car.
›How far in advance do I need to register?
At the latest before you enter the zone; we recommend at least 24 hours ahead so the registration is definitely processed.
